I resized a partition on my hard drive by adding space from a deleted
partitition in front of it. PM hung before the process was completed.
I turned off the PC, but am afraid to boot up Windows XP due to the
unknown state of the partition.

Is the partitition damaged? Anything I should do before booting up XP?

The partition may or may not be damaged.

In theory Partition Magic would protect the area worked on in a type
hex 3C Pqrp partition, which Windows XP should not attempt to access,
but you cannot be certain.

One way to verify is to get Findpart for DOS at

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm" target="_blank">http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm</a>

do from boot to a DOS floppy:

findpart all fp.txt

and let me evaluate the output file.
