Newegg screwed up and sent me a SATA harddrive instead of the IDE drive
I asked for. (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=

description=22-144-122&depa=1)
Anybody know a of a website that has a good installation tutorial for
this type of drive?
I wonder how much the darn cables will cost.

The cables are not very expensive. Your motherboard will need to support
SATA. If it doesn't, you will need a PCI SATA controller.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I'd just send it back, they are easy to deal with and the return shipping
will be less than cables..

And do you have a motherboard that can handle S-ATA? If not, you'll need a
card.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Can't you send it back? I mean if you have a newer motherboard it may have the
SATA connectors but if it doesn't then why be forced to spend extra money to
fix someone elses mistake?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The data cable that you need should have come with the drive.

But you WILL need a SATA interface on the mainboard. If you don't
have a SATA mainboard, you'll need to buy a PCI-based controller card
for it.

There's not a lot to explain about installing it. Its actually easier
than an EIDE drive. Just plug in the data cable and the power
cable...and pick that drive to boot from (in the BIOS) if that's the
way yer gonna use it.

Personally, I'd get the 10,000 rpm Raptor...with the 5-year warranty.

Good luck.

mobo.

You're probably right. But I think I got a couple from Newegg with
the drive...OEM's even...but not from any other supplier.

I think I will send it back. SATA drives are supposed to be a little
faster and the mobo supports thems. I considered buying a sata drive but
decided I didn't feel like trying to figure out how install one and went
with the IDE. Then newegg sends a sata drive anyway >sigh< I also don't
feel like wasting my time and money to send the drive back to newegg.

Yeah they said they would.
What about insuring it? If it arrives in back at newegg in 1000 pieces
I'm out about 70 bucks.

Don't bother. It takes 3 months before you can even file a claim and then
they'll just say you didn't package it good enough (been there..). OTOH
delivery confirmation is with the $0.45 it costs as it allows you to track
the package. Just box it up just like they sent it to you and it will be
fine.

Unless I send it back via the post office (bad idea in these parts)
I have to take an extended lunch hour from work to send it UPS. This will
cost me money. I have to borrow my husband's car too. I find this all
very annoying.
