thankyou for your earlier help with our new board. our current cpu fan speed
is 3629 (coolermaster/copper core with rheostat). the cpu temp is 44c.
shutdown is set at 56c.
we would like to turn down the cpu fan further in the interest of noise. is
this ok?
we have two additional case fans besides the power supply fan.
thankyou.
tony & karen, oregon

Under load? There's a big difference in CPU temp under load and idle.

As long as you keep it under 60c there shouldn't be a problem. Yes,
many will say "60c?! are you mad?". However, my experience is that
there's no problem under 60c. Go over (say 62c) and you'll get
lock-ups. These are a warning sign.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

eloj: thanks! we have dialed down our coolermaster cpu fan and it's much
much nicer to live with using your advice. we are very happy with our abit
board, it was just the cpu fan noise that was really the issue. do you have
an opinion on changing from our win98se to win xp?
