I've got a GeForce FX 5200 with 128 meg of memory.
I can't get the agp texture acceleration to be other than
not available. My motherboard is an asus P4C800 deluxe.
with a 3.0gig P4 cpu. I'm running winME. I've updated the bios, i've
added the intel driver update utility and updated all the drivers that
would update.
I went through the varioius bios settings and while I did figure out a
few that will disable the system, I couldn't find one that would fix
my problem.
One of the things that confused me was the bios setting for giving an
irq to the pci video card. Well, I figure that since mine is an agp,
maybe this was confusing the computer. Setting this to no causes the
system to halt with a windows protection error as it tries to load.
I've got an older Geforce 3 card on a a slower system running win2K
and it's agp texture acceleration is enabled.
anyone got any ideas?
thanks,
Robert

first dude put that geforce 3 in your faster system, take the fx out lol,
the geforce 3 might not be dx 9 shaders but it will be faster than your
5200!

Any link to a benchmark?
The GF3s have dropped off the face of the earth as far as the big review
sites are concerned... but I'll bet a good ol' Ti200 could give an
FX5200 a run for its money. Particularly if it's an FX5200 with a
64-bit memory interface. (Why don't they distinguish that in the card
names? FX5200 M64, FX5100, FX5200-POS, any of these would be better.)
(Yes, I know about the FutureMark ORB, but I don't trust those numbers
for squat. I've seen the kinds of crazy things those lamers do to jack
up their scores...)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How can I make agp texture acceleration available? |

Thats sounds like it. You might also want to consider using older chipset
drivers then the newest version. I had that solve the same problem before.
Re-installing DirectX and the video drivers after the chipset drivers could
also help.
Also check the AGP aperture in the bios. Sometimes that can cause weird
problems. I don't know how much memory is on your video card, but try setting
it for 64 or 128megs.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How can I make agp texture acceleration available? |

At work yes but not on any of my home computers.
for the guys that said I should put the geforce 3 into this computer,
Apparently the motherboard doesn't support anything earlier than agp
8x. I put that card in (and another 4x card) and neither would work
at all. I tried changing the motherboard out but the same results.
(motherboard is an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe)
I thought that gart was for ati cards. I'll go to the intel site and
take a look.
Thanks all for the suggestions.

Awesome. They even have an Excel spreadsheet with all the raw numbers.
So here are the average scores over RtCW, Unreal2, Serious Sam, and
UT2003 for a few NVIDIA cards:
GF FX 5950U : 177.5
GF FX 5900XT : 161.3
GF FX 5700U : 151.6
GF4 Ti4600 : 144.9
GF4 Ti4400 : 131.7
GF4 Ti4200 : 113.7
GF FX 5700 : 111.1
GF FX 5600 : 101.6
GF FX 5200U : 92.0
GF3 Ti200 : 77.8
GF FX 5600XT : 74.9
GF MX440-8x : 71.4
GF FX 5200 : 70.3 [128-bit, 250/400]
GF MX440 : 61.1
GF2 Pro : 56.5
GF FX 5200 : 39.7 [64-bit, 250/333]
GF2 MX400 : 31.0
GF 256 : 27.1
I didn't include Code Creatures, Splinter Cell, and RightMark because
some cards do not have a score for those tests. Also, the data do not
include any GF6800 series cards.
So the verdict is: The FX5200 sucks. ESPECIALLY if it's a 64-bit
version--it's slower than a GF2 Pro! Keep the Ti200. <!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How can I make agp texture acceleration available? |

geforce 3 ti 200 scores 7 fps better than a even newer fx 5200, 5200 is a
sad line of cards.

Today I changed out my FX5200 for an FX5700. And like with the FX5200
the agp texture acceleration is not available. I've got a ticket in
to ASUS for help with the motherboard agp driver but I'm beginning to
think that maybe it's windowsME that is the real problem.

Have you tried installing an older version of the chipset drivers? That solved
a problem I had like yours.
I also read a post that someone changed the AGP aperture size and that fixed
the same problem. I guess the motherboard and video ccard didn't like what they
had it set for.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How can I make agp texture acceleration available? |
