I recently bought a SB51G because its small, good looking and Shuttle SFF
PC's have a reputation for being quiet. I'm happy with my SB51G on the frst
two counts but not the last, it's the noisiest PC I've ever seen !! Has
anyone found a way to reduce the nosie of one of these things ? I.e. any
recommendations for suitable quieter fans would be appreciated.

Hi, i had the same with my SN45G, both, the 80mm and 40mm were surprisingly
noisy.
It was during the heat-period in Switzerland (and around) when i decided to
replace the original (heavy, double-ball-bearing!!) Fans by some no-name
Fans. The 40mm was a sleeve-bearing, taken from a chipset-cooler
(12V/0.08A). The 80mm was a 12V/0.25A. Both Fans have no 3rd RpM-monitoring
cable. I controll the Fans via SpeedFan 4.09 (www.almico.com) with the
following settings:
Trigger: Harddisk, desired: 37°C, Warning: 44°C, Fan1 (80mm).
Fan-Setting: 5% to 18%, automatically variated.
Result @ 25°C avg Room temp: HD1: 36-39°C/Pwr Supply: 39-42°C; Board/System:
38-41°C, CPU(XP2200+): 40-48°C
The noise at Full-Load; 18% (85-90% real) is recognizeable but without the
noisy side-effects of the original double-ball-bearing Fans.
The triggering via the Harddisk results in longer speed-up/slow-down cycles
of the triggered Fan, while the CPU Temp stays in a good range.
hope this helps, greetings
