I replaced a DVD drive in my Dell with a Lite-on DVD writer.
Everything works great, but when I manually eject any CD or DVD, My
Computer still shows it loaded. Putting another disk in tray doesn't
clear the record of old contents. Only by going to my computer, right
clicking and selecting Eject can I clear this. I've seen this on
other PCs and wondered if there is an article somewhere that explains
how to fix. Thanks in advance

Have you turned off AIN? Depending on your (unnamed) OS, that may be
reversed individually per drive or collectively for all. If
collectively, informatin is in the usual references: the CDR FAQ or the
primer at my WWW site (under tips for the two classes of Windows).

Thanks for the response. I haven't turned off AIN. Both the new
drive and the second disk drive (CD-RW) are being read correctly by
system. Just have this flakey problem with Windows (98 SE) not
recognizing when a volume has been ejected. Thanks again for response
and reference.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update

Do you have a DWORD value named "UpdateMode"? If not, create it and set
it equal to "0". You need to restart Windows.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
