I have got a laptop Aspire 3000

I would like to connect an external LCD monitor that support 1680 x 1050
resolution

Question is how can I find out if my laptop can support such resolution
in at least 24bit color?

Thanks

Terry

That depends on the video driver. Most likely the highest resolution support by your video driver is the native resolution of the laptop screen. You could probably connect the external monitor, disable the laptop screen, and install a driver for the external monitor.

IF your laptop uses onboard video off the motherboard, then it will NOT
support that high of a resolution.

Simple assuming you're using windows. Go into the display properties control.
Go to the settings tab. Click the monitor box labeled 2. Pull the resolution
slider as far to the right as you can (making sure the desired color depth
is already selected). That is the highest resolution that your laptop can
output to an external monitor.

Hmm, what about laptops with onboard video that have a large
widescreen panel built in? For example there are Intel
integrated notebooks driving 1920x1200, 17". You better
tell Dell et al. that 1680 x 1050 isn't supported so they
can issue a massive recall.

Let us know when you have contacted everyone.
