No, PC2100 should work. Did you clear the cmos and make sure that jumper
was in the right place? Did you make sure the on board video jumper was in
the right place (if it has one)? Kind of hard to guess, there's so many
things that could be screwed up.

When I run into a problem like this, I
take the MB out of the case and test it on top of the box with the bare
minimum conneted to it.
