Hello,

I'm searching for a new mobo and was wondering if
NE-1 is using one that matches the following specs:

- Non-VIA or non-SIS chipset.
- GOOD on-board video (maybe 32 to 64 meg. video RAM).
- Ability to use older PC2100 RAM (so I can use my
existing 256 meg. RAM).
- 4 or 5 PCI expansion slots.
- An AGP slot (8x?)
- FireWire connections.
- GOOD on-board audio (if better than the SB Live
I have now).
- On-board LAN (or not, as I have a LAN card).

I'll probably go with an intel
processor but an AMD would do also.

Thanx for NE help.

Carl

That's harder to fill than you might think, basically because of the PCI
slot requirements. All of the NForce 2 motherboards I've looked at with
onboard graphics are micro-ATX form factor- 3 PCI slots vs 5. If you were
willing to go with that, then you would have multiple choices. A micro ATX
board fits in a standard ATX case, and you can get all the features you
want. GeForce 4 MMX graphics (up to 128 MB shared memory), 3 memory slots
(dual channel memory), 5.1 sound (AC97) , onboard LAN and USB 2. The one I'm
using has the pinouts for firewire, but no rear firewire port.

Will DDR 2700 run only at 2100 if mobo accepts both? - Was told by a Staples salesman, who really 'seems' to know his "stuff" that a PNY-2700/2100 DDR will only run as a 2100 in any mobo that accepts either 2100 or 2700 (not in those adjustable in 1 mhz increments, I feel). Also told me that newer ...
