Post subject: motherboard's maximum memory module?

Wow, too many m's in that subject! Haha. Anyway..

So I have this older Intel motherboard, and I was wondering what's the maximum amount of memory it could handle. Right now I have 320 (128, 128, 64) and it could really use some more.

I opened Aida32 and it says the "maximum memory module" is 256. Does that mean it will only accept 256mb sticks of ram in each slot? What would happen if I put a 512 in? I was really hoping to get a stick of 512 and keep the two 128's, but I won't be too happy if I'm forced to get two sticks of 256 instead. Sad

Also, I was wondering if there was a way to get by the 256mb limit. A friend said that I might be able to increase that by flashing the motherboard. I wouldn't know what to do though.

If you know the name (number) and manufacturer of your MB you can look for info in the web. But I don't thing you can use a 512 Mb stick if maximum is 256Mb. It might work, but only as a 256Mb stick if it works at all. Don't think flashing the BIOS on your MB to increase maximum amount of ram..
