I recently moved the innards from an older case to a newer one--used
K7S5A mobo, used 2100 XP+ T'bred, new 512 meg (via Office-Max) 333DDR
Kingston ram, new cheap generic 16mb graphics card, same generic350-watt ps
with = or > 28a on 3.3 volt, 25a on 5 volt, & 15a on the +12 volt rails, new
& inexpensive Creative sound card, and old HP cd-burner.. Suddenly it
froze, and am having problems booting--except in safe mode where, according
to my friend I built it for, it says the sound is configured improperly and
it is operating on ISP address other than what it is supposed to be. He's
using cable-modem. It had no problem for 3 months until 3 days after he
updated WinXP Pro w/a new Windows update.
On-board sound worked fine before change; had to install sound card
after changeover.
Any ideas before I have the unit brought back to me? Does it sound like
thunderstorm damage--which happened between last good boot and 1st bad boot?
Thx in advance. sdlomi >> Stay informed about: moved K7S5A to new case and on-bd sound won't work |

No, I did a full clean install. HD had actually been f-disk'd &
formatted from how it came on the system--was running Win ME.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: moved K7S5A to new case and on-bd sound won't work |

You've lost me here?
How can the system have been buggered up and then you say you have
re-partitioned and reformatted?
Are you saying the system is now,"Still" buggered up after a clean
re-install?

Shep, sorry for so much trouble. Yes, the system just began "buggering"
up when he plugged in his scanner this week(about 2 months since I
reformatted & assembled it) & had no compliant driver. Friend just bro't me
the comp. and as soon as he left, I checked it & found he was trying to run
the non-WinXP- compliant scanner. XP showed this when I ran the
compliant-scan on it.!
As far as the sound is concerned, I'm just gonna leave the sound card in
it. He'll just hafta make his scanner USB-attachable in order to install a
USB-WinXP-compliant driver. Visioneer site says their XP update requires
USB connection--and his is the old parallel-connect type.
Thanks again, Shep. Sam<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: moved K7S5A to new case and on-bd sound won't work |
