If there are drivers for the mouse and/or keyboard, un-install, then,
re-install the drivers. If both are plug-n-play, run a test on both to
see what comes up.

Hi!
Not sure how much you have already done in terms of trouble-shooting
this.. The key to solving something like this is being able to
reproduce/trigger it at will.

Here are some basic tips for truobleshooting this problem:

You need to check if this happens with ALL players or just one or some
players. (Try the major ones, like Windows Media Player, Winamp and Real
Audio. Also try a few thin, freeware ones from the net.)

You also need to check if the behaviour happens when you are running the
PC in safe mode. (e.g. without any of your plugins, misc user-installed
services or customised settings. ) To boot in safe mode, hold down F8
while rebooting the PC. When prompted, say that you want to run in safe
mode.

My guess is that in a basic player, with no other apps running and in
safe mode, you will not see this problem!
(If you still do, it is a really strange problem on a fundamental level
such as with the soundcard drivers etc.) If the problem does not appear
in safe mode, there is a disturbance from some other application that is
running on your machine.

Once you know that you are ok in safe mode, or that certain players do
not display the problem, you have to do a bit of detective work and
trial-error to identify exactly what is causing the problem! Close down
services, using the task manager. Start applications one by one until
you have found the culprit.

Once you have identified the circumstances under which it happens, try
google for keywords such as:
audio stutter sp2 scrolling "media player" solution Realtek

(The above would apply if you found that the problem occurs on win xp
sp3, with Windows Media player and Realtek sound card drivers.)
You would then have to uninstall or update the program that interferes
with your audio, alternatively update the audio drivers themselves as
suggested in the previous post. If the problem only occurs in a specific
audio player, you'd have to update that player.

Good luck!

Check if the system is using DMA for the hard drive. You can
get an effect like that if XP has decided its seeing too many
errors with the hard drive and turns the DMA off for safety.

If DMA is off, try a new ribbon cable to the drive and force
the DMA back on. XP wont turn it on for you with a new cable.
