Post subject: New nVidia FX5200 in GA71XE4 AGP 1.0 Slot?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

Hi,

Im helping a friend upgrade his computer as much as he can without changing
the motherboard, and one of the upgrades is a new video card. The
motherboard is an older Gigabyte GA71XE4 based on the AMD 751/756 chipset.
http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7IXE4.htm

He's on a budget and not really a performance enthusiast and I have
suggested a Geforce FX5200 based card.

The AGP slot on this board is version 1.0 supporting AGP speeds of only 2x.
I understand that AGP 2.0 or 3.0 cards are backward compatible with 1x/2x/4x
speeds but will this card have any issues running in this older AGP 1.0
slot?

Im a little concerned with voltages as the AGP 1.0 slot provides 3.3v and
AGP needs 1.5V. What are the potential issues with voltage that I should
look out for?

Also are there any other general compatibility issues with running an AGP
2.0 compliant card in a 1x/2x slot under Windows 2000?

Thanks in advance.

Eyman
