I just ordered a WD 120GB sata drive from newegg.com($105US...not bad)
anyways. Anyone have any problems with this drive. Also say in a few months
if I buy another can I mirror the two together with out loosing data? Yeah I
know I will back up the really important stuff....just don't want to have to
go through an OS/App reload. Thanks for the info.

I put one in about a month ago and I'm happy with it. I'm not using raid nor
do I intend to, so I can't comment on that aspect of it but Newegg prices
and shipping have been very good for me.

I was using a WD 80SE drive with an adapter on the sata controller. When the
new sata drive arrived I hooked up the original to the onboard ide
controller and the new sata drive to the sata controller. Then I used the wd
utilities disk version 11 in dos to copy the drive. Then I removed the 80
and all was well.

Thanks for the info. I have the 80SE also. I don't mind the reload of
windows now(its kinda funky a needs a reload anyways) I just don't want to
have to do a reload in a few months if I buy another drive and do a
raid1....

I'm not familiar with using raid but from what I have garnered from the
newsgroups and other forums it would seem to me that raid 0 is the way to go
rather than raid 1. Again I am just an idiot regarding raid and suggest you
look into the raid issue more before you decide what you really want to do.

I did notice a marked increase in boot speed as well as program launching
etc. after the switch in any case.

If you are using xp then be sure to have the sata driver available on a
floppy or cd for the F6? driver install option for your new install.

Best of luck, Bob Troll

Hi,
I am using these drives in a SATA RAID-0 set-up, works well. I didn't try
RAID-1 yet but I would imagine that you *could* just install another drive
in the future and have the RAID-1 *build* a new mirror.

Yeah, Thats what I kinda figured. But I probably will go with the
raid0 setup for the performance reasons...i just really hate reload
the OS and stuff....to much crap...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
