I am not sure if this is the right place to ask. But I am wondering if
anyone out there happens to know the packet loss ratio of ethernet. For
example, if machine A sends a packet using MAC layer multicast to
machine B and C, what's the chance that machine B receives this packet
but C does not? Does the result depend on whether B and C are connected
using a hub, switch or on different segments? It's be even better if
some references could be pointed out. Please CC: me on any replies.
Thanks

I use Sun Rays on a dedicated switched local network. The Ray server
software makes reports of packet loss and bytes transferred available.
FWIW, except when I disconnect a cable someplace, according to those
reports I normally experience ZERO packet loss during the transfer of
multiple gigabytes of data (i.e. screen refreshes). Note that the
data involved is not multicast.
