Thanks for that ... I'm shortly in a similar situation to the OP,
of building my next system and want something roughly equal to
my current 9800-Pro but as PCIe. I'll look closely at the X1650.

whilst i was at it i looked at the all in wonder for my sisters machine.
she has 200/300 chipset with a 64mb on board graphics. that struggles with
a 2003 rally game. but digital tv tuner and video in for editing all for
£30 looks brilliant. Only problem is the one reviewer there had a bitch of
a time installing it and in fact never succeeded.

The AIW cards can be a pain in the ass when it comes to finding correct,
stable software, because the various tuner/player apps are not updated as
frequently as the core Catalyst drivers. AIW cards are considered
end-of-life by ATi, and as such tuner/player apps are not available for
Vista.

Better to find an appropriate plain video card, then add a separate
tuner/capture card like the LeadTek Winfast PVR or Hauppauge WinTV series.

Of the two you listed, the 256Mb version is using GDDR3 at 690Mhz (1380 Mhz)
whereas the 512Mb version has DDR2 at 400Mhz (800Mhz effective). That's why
the 512Mb is cheaper and less desirable in this case.
