I've tried photoDVD - does the job great but is there other software that is
better?...
Can you make a menu page so that you can select a different album - each set
up with different music etc..?

John, I've tried many photo slideshow DVD programs and by far the best I've
found is MemoriesonTV available here:
http://www.picturetotv.com/ You can add multiple photo slideshows to each
DVD, they all can have their own music, it uses the "Ken Burns" effect and
you can create your own pan on individual pictures. You can try an
evaluation copy for free, it's just a great program.

John,

My favourite for this is ProShow Gold from http://www.photodex.com

There's a trial avaiable, so download it and see if it does all that you
want (use a DVD RW for testing - then it really won't cost anything Smile)

I would also highly recommend Photo2DVD for making photo slideshow.
You have nearly 150 transition effects and many menu templates for you
select or download. A trial is available from
http://www.photo-to-dvd.com

Use Ulead MovieFactory 3 or higher. With this you can make multiple photo
albums and add spoken and/or written annotations for each photo.
