Post subject: How do you properly adjust an LCD monitor?
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>video (more info?)

I found a great deal at Staples, a 17" PIXO AT700S LCD monitor, by
NESOUSA for $380, minus $80 rebate, minus another $30 coupon (net $270
USD).

Though this monitor has contrast specs below some others (400:1) and
not the fastest response time (Tr/Tf 15/35ms) it is certainly more
vivid than my 17" CRT which I also ran at 1280x1024, and looks fine
playing video. I am not a game player.

I have tried my best to get it setup correctly, but have found that
many of the controls interact, so tweaking one is in essence tweaking
others. Not only that, some have names which don't describe any
function I know.

Basically, there are: Brightness, Contrast and Color Temperature,
plus Pitch, Phase and Sharpness. The other controls are for
positioning and no problem.

So, can anyone recommend a method to my madness to get this setup
right?

Thanks,
Geoff Fox

Here are some definitions for some of the settings (from NESO -
Taiwan) for one of their other LCD monitors:

FUNCTION - INSTRUCTION
Brightness - Adjust the white light intensity.
Contrast - Adjust the ratio of white to black.
Phase - Adjust the horizontal flicker.
Pitch - Adjust the vertical noise and correct he horizontal size.
H center - Adjust the horizontal position.
V center - Adjust the vertical position.
Color - Select the screen to show user bluish (9300K), reddish
(6500K),
greenish (5000K) or user.
Menu position - Select the menu position.
Reset - Reset changes and recall factory settings.
Backlight - Adjust the light of the backlighting lamps.
Language - Select the display language (English, German, French,
Spanish, Italian, Japanese)

How's the picture on the monitor right out of the box (using the
factory presets)?
Have you tried to install the monitor driver? The driver can be
downloaded from <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.nesousa.com/support.asp" target="_blank">http://www.nesousa.com/support.asp</a>

This is in error.

While 9300K IS distinctly "bluish", 6500K is not a "reddish"
setting and 5000K is DEFINITELY not "greenish". 6500K is
the "daylight white" standard, and is also the standard to be used
for "TV" video (as it is the white point assumed in the broadcast
television standards). 5000-5500K is distinctly more reddish
that 6500K, and is generally considered to be more of a "paper"
white - and hence is used primarily for document viewing and
similar "prepress" applications.

I received the same monitor from Staples today (got an extra 2% from
ebates). Just be sure to download and install the monitor driver from
the NESO website. The display is bright and the text are sharp...I'm
very happy with this monitor.
