Hello

Specs:

- Motherboard: ASUS PB5 Deluxe
- Sound card: sitting on the motherboard
- Speaker system: Logitech X-540 (this is an 5.1 system)
- Sound driver: SoundMAX

Problem:

I do net get sound on both rear speakers when I am playing a DVD or
listening to music for example. When I test the device through the
sound driver program there is no problem and there is sound on all
speakers.

I checked all available configuration possibilities but couldn't work
it out. I also set the audio mode in Windows Media Player to Dolby
Surround. Didn't help. (I have the problem all over the system, e.g.
with other applications not only Windows Media Player.)

Thanks for any help!

The system will play thru the rear speakers, WHEN there is an audio signal
to them. Listening to stereo recorded music is only two channel sound, so
only the front speakers play. If you play a DVD movie recorded in 5.1 Dolby
Surround on the disk then the rear speakers will work. When you run the
system's test sounds, they intentionally send sound to all five speakers.

Windows Media Player doesn't come with the required codec to play 5.1
sound. You need to buy a full version of some sort of DVD playing
software like PowerDVD or WinDVD to get the needed codec. If your
using the new Windows Media Player you can buy the codec thru it and
then you will have 5.1 sound. If you buy the full version of PowerDVD
or WinDVD you can then play the DVD using it or Windows Media Player
and have 5.1 sound. The free versions of PowerDVD and or WinDVD that
come with a DVD drive do not have the required codec.

I went through this a while ago with my Logitech 5.1 speakers (I
forget what # I have). I went through everything I could think of and
then decided to check the connections. I didn't push the connectors
into the sound card all the way Smile

Even tech support couldn't figure it out. They wanted me to reseat my
sound card. I told them I'll try it but it ended up I didn't have to.
I must have messed around with every piece of Creative Soundblaster
software installed on my system as I clearly remember some setting
that did me in on my last PC. I never could find it again.

I sure wish Logitech would print what the name of their speakers are
on the hardware! I think I have the 680s?

I have a A7N8X-E motherboard and I could get all 4 speakers to work on
surround sound. I bought a A8N-SLI and I can only get sound out of the two
front speakers. I tried everything to get it to work. Different drivers from
Asus and the internet sites. Using the same setup speakers. I finally gave
up and use front speakers only. I forget how many times I reinstalled
windows xp to try and get it to work.

I have an A8N-SLI Deluxe and Logitech 5.1 speakers with a Creative SB
Audigy 2 ZS sound card. The only problems with my rear speakers not
working are in the latter stages of Half-Life 2. I have to now switch
between 5.1 and 7.1 setup each time I start the game in order to get
them to work!
