i have radeon 8500 and it runs choppy even at 640X480 low image
quality. i would like to upgrade the videocard to run it at 1024X768
med image quality. i have amd xp 2400, 512mb ddr, 8mb 160bg hd.....

Any sub-$100 card wouldn't be much better than what you have. Don't get
anything less than a GeForceFX 5700 (non-LE), about $125 online.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

forget the ATI for Doom3, at best only half the speed of a cheaper
Geforce. read some web reviews, ATI sucks, which shouldn't be a
surprise since John did a deal with nvidia for OpenGL. Don't listen
to the fools that pissed away $$$ on ATI and cannot let their egos
admit it.
