Post subject: I cannot record from TV/VCR ?? Why not and How to do this please???
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>nvidia (more info?)

I has asked earlier and people had mentioned needing to know more info
about the video card.

Device : NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS
GPU CODE NAME : NV41GS
Bus Type : GDDR 3
Bus Width : 256-bit
Adapter String : Version 5.42.02.49.1A
CHIP TYPE : Geforce 6800 GS
DAC Type : Integrated RAMDAC
Installed Drivers : NV4_DISP (6.14.10.8198-NVIDIA Forceware 81.98 )
Memory Size : 256 MB

What I want to know is can I use this card to record tv/cable/vcr ?
I want to hook it up to the output of the vcr or tv to record shows if
possible.
The card itself show only an OUTPUT S-Video, so am I screwed?

If so, can someone suggest another card that would accomplish this for
me?

thanks,

The question was answered quite clearly.

This is a video OUT card. It CANNOT be used to record INPUT from TV. You
need a TV Card, such as the Hauppauge PVR-150.

Just to make sure you're clear. THIS CARD CANNOT DO IT.

And, yes, I was shouting.

I'm not sure your answer was complete. You make it sound as if no
6800 GS is capable of recording video, but I've seen ads for 6800 GS
cards with video in capability. To *tune* TV channels you need a
tuner card, but to simply record video from the output of a VCR or TV,
then a 6800 GS with input capability would work.

That being said, most 6800 GS cards do *not* implement video in.

To record analogue video with an Nvidia based graphics card you need one
with VIVO: Video In Video Out. The VIVO chip is not a standard feature. If
your card does not have VIVO then you will need a third party video capture
and/or TV tuner card, such as those by Hauppauge or Pinnacle.
