hi

i am trying to install xp pro on a sata disk connected to a gigabyte
ga-7n400 pro2 mb (silicon image 3112). all starts good, i press f6 and
supply floppy, xp install continues normal through all things until the
first reboot.

then problems: the sata disk is not reconized as bootable and the cd-rom
boots instead! (continues as the first time, eg installationprogram thinks
it's run the first time!)

bootorder in bios: floppy, scsi, cdrom (sata reconized as scsi)
(tested this order also: floppy, cdrom, scsi)

help.......

Boot order: CD ROM, SCSI, Floppy

Make sure you don't just extract the SATA driver folder to a floppy- the
individual files have to be extracted to it.
Leave the Floppy in the drive- the installer will access it twice. You will
be prompted to remove it prior to reboot.

Are you setting the drive up as RAID or BASE. If you are only using one
drive, then I think it should be BASE (check your SATA manual on this), as
you won't be creating a RAID array. That also makes a difference as to what
folder you extract the SATA drivers from (Sil3112 or Sil3112r).

If you have already tried multiple installs, you may want to clear your
CMOS, and then make only necessary changes from default settings....boot
order and RAID to BASE. You might also enter the motherboard drive utility
(press F4 key at prompt during boot sequence) and do a low level format of
the drive- only takes about 10 minutes with the SATA drives.

get the sata controller driver on a floppy. on first install, when XP asks
if you want to install any other storage drivers (briefly) press F6 and
point it at the disk. nothing is goign to work until you do this.
