I'm saving up to get a new PC, and I see that AMD is coming out with a new
socket and stuff. Since I'm not sure exactly when I'm going to buy, any
suggestions on websites to keep track of so I know what technologies are
coming when? I was planning on a socket 939, but it looks like those are
getting phased out, and I'm not sure if I should buy one because they will
be cheap, or avoid it because it has no upgrade path beyond whatever chips
AMD releases before discontinuing 939 chips altogether.
Any sites that also keep track of the price/performance sweet point would
also be helpful.
So far I just read tomshardware and anandtech, but open to all options,
especially ones that deal specifically with AMD and/or ASUS
Thanks!

939 is going to be around for quite a while.
Get a 939 board with pci-e if you want to be current and forward looking.
only bleeding edge groupies will be jumping on any new sockets.
personally Im getting a little pissed at constant industry changes that
"eventually" force an upgrade. >> Stay informed about: Best site for general ASUS updates? |

Keith,
Greetings and hallucinations from just north of Fantasy Land (Washington,
DC)!
Well, my advice to you is to start researching a motherboard after you have
the money to build the system. Why? Motherboards change like the winds. What
is hot today is in next month's remainder bin. Right now, Socket 939 is hot;
who is to say next year?
Peace,
Paul

BIOS Update Question: Is ftp.asus.de a dead site? - In the past, after trying the other ASUS BIOS update sites and getting no updates, I have always gone to ftp.asus.de and I have been given multiple update options including beta versions.
