One of my machines stopped working recently. I discovered that upon
boot the case lights don't come on and the bios doesn't boot although
the fans come on. On the mobo both the boot and stdby lights are solid
red. The only way to turn the machine off is to unplug it. I tried
removing all cards and even memory plus unhooked hard drives and still
it does not boot the bios. Even tried reseting the CMOS. The only thing
I can think of is a bad mob or cpu or maybe PSU. Any ideas?

How about the bios battery itself..? Power supplies are cheap enough
today so would a check by replacment, not be a good idea to borrow
one with a
similar or greater Wattage..?

When resetting CMOS I like to disconnect the power supply lead to the
mobo as well, another thing won't be a miss is to look for swollen
capacitors, caps for short... that may have bulge or their flat tops
become dome looking, some may even leak corrosive gunge also a clue.
