Hi All!

My sister has a PolaroidPDC 700 camera that uses a USB cable for
downloading. She doesn't have a media card yet, just uses onboard memory.
Her camera came with a USB cable but Polaroid says "USB won't work on her
Windows XP, only serial connection will", and her laptop has NO serial
port. Laptop is a Gateway 400SP.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make this work somehow??
Thanks for ANY help!!!! katy

Has your sister tried attaching it to her laptop?

the 400SP has two usb ports - plug the camera in and see what happens.
Or, go to Ritz Photo, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc and buy a
card reader and a 32 or 64 mb compact flash memory card for the camera
(nothing larger needed given the 1024 x 768 resolution).

Yes, by installing her software that came with the camera, she tried with
her laptop. But the driver for the software told her that that camera could
not be installed on XP except by using a serial port.

But she is looking for a memory card now for that camera that she CAN use on
her laptop without need for the serial port, there IS a slot for this memory
card. Whether IT will work with XP remains to be seen but it must be one of
those cameras that is just not flexible. I noticed on the Polaroid site
that this camera is no longer manufactured, I can see why.

She does have a Win98 desktop machine that she can download her onboard
pictures to. But for future pictures, hopefully the CompactFlash(tm) card
will work better for her on the laptop. I also have a card reader she can
try if the laptop card slot proves useless.
