Hi, need help, pls. Moved my K7S5A, w/Honey bios, and xp2100+ to
another computer--both working fine including my on-board sound. Used
different cdrw, dvdrom, floppy, harddrive, modem, nic. Moved my mobo, cpu,
hs/fan, ram, power supply. New computer I'm assembling was a HP which had
been put into a generic case.
Problem arose: after formatting and installing Win XP PRO--clean
install, as hd was f-disked & formatted first--no sound from onboard sound.
All else seemed fine. Re-installed XP Pro on top of itself several times,
and never got sound to work. Finally, installed a good used sound card I
had, and all seemed well.
Wanting to check all functions before it left, I removed the ps/2 mouse
and installed a serial mouse. Booted several times and mouse won't work on
either serial port. I'm 99% sure serial mouse is good. But, it seems
strange that the 2 serial ports being situated so close to the on-board
sound ports (speaker, input, mic), that the 2 might be related.
Now have 2 problems: on-bd. sound and 2 serial ports don't work.
Anything in bios I should look for? Bios showed serial port "A" set on,
like "3hfc" and port "B" on like "2fhc"--assigning them to like comport 1
and comport 2. I even tried setting the 2 ports to "AUTO" and still no
action from mouse.and no sound.
Any help greatly appreciated. sdlomi
