I have a P5K mb and Logitech 5.1 speakers. I'm using the onboard sound
on the mb. The speakers are connected according to the manual. When I
test the speakers using the Realtek HD software that came with the mb
all the speakers test fine. However when I play music with Winamp or
WMP, the rear speakers have no sound.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks. I can do that. However I got sound out of it before with my
previous mb.
I'll try a DVD.

The interface on my software is slightly different, but there is a
setting called "speaker fill" which does produce some ( but not a lot)
from the rear speakers.
Getting there:)
Thanks

A DVD player application, is one way to get source to drive a
5.1 speaker system. (See posting by "BigJim".)
A lot of audio is only going to be stereo. If you want 5.1 from
stereo source, then the audio driver needs "virtualization" capability.
My sound card has an "enable virtual 5.1 audio and reverberation"
check box, and the purpose of that, is to convert 2 channels to
5.1 channels. That adds a bit of depth cueing, to the audio
content. That would be a software feature, and the hardware in
my sound card, doesn't know anything about virtual 5.1. It is
a driver function, and requires CPU cycles to do the conversion
and add the sound effect.
I don't see an option here, that will convert 2 channel content
to 5.1 speakers. But this manual for Realtek Hdaudio, doesn't
show all the screens, so is incomplete.

It is working correctly. Winamp and WMP are STEREO two channel sources, so
they only output to the front speakers.. You would need a 5.1 channel
SOURCE, such as a properly recorded video game, to hear the rear speakers.

Go to Control Panel....Sound. Click on Speakers on the Playback tab so it
is selected, then click on Properties.
In the next window, click on the Enhancements tab, then scroll down and
make sure the Speaker Fill box is checked. Click OK and you should be
good to go with sound out of therear speakers as well. >> Stay informed about: Question regarding speaker hookup? |
