are there any aftermarket gfx coolers available that can reduce the racket
created by an HD2900XT? Getting a bit fed up with it. I thought I'd ask
before I venture off down the road of watercooling.

Many coolers will fit on the 2900XT, very few can handle the card's
near-200W heat output.

This one will work, but it's not yet available at Newegg:
http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_hr03_r600.htm

Collision with the motherboard's northbridge heat sink may be an issue,
since the HR-03's fins are on the top side of the video card.

Err, nope. There are three versions of the HR-03, with differences primarily
in the retention bracket design:

1. HR-03 Plus: fits 8800 cards.
2. HR-03/R600: fits 2900 cards.
3. HR-03 generic: fits most other cards.

The NCIX listing is for the generic version; it doesn't fit on the HD
2900XT.
