Question about the tiger s2460

Greetings, I would like to upgrade my video card in favor of the new quadro
900, but worry that
this would cause problems or maybe cause a meltdown or something. The reason
is that
I read somewhere that this card requires a little more power than other
cards. My old one is
an Oxygen gvx420 with a sister card attached to a pci slot, so I imagine
that my old card
would also require some muscle to move it. What do you think? Should I
upgrade and get a
larger psu or since I'm only using one cpu , would this do just fine? Here's
what I have:



CPU: single 1600 (at the time that's all I could afford)
PSU: Antec 400w
yamaha_crw2100s
dvd
Scsi card
HP harddrive
IBM ultrastar scsi harddrive
Memory: Crucial 2 sticks@ 256 2100 register, but I'm getting 1more @ 512
register this week.

Also can I get the memory to work this way or do I need to have pairs ?

Some S2460 users have had problems with the connector from the PSU to
the mobo getting fried, I have not. See other threads on this group
and search via Google. You need to have a hefty power supply. Check
the recommended supplies on the Tyan site. Power supplies from PC
Power & Cooling are very highly rated, although they may not be listed
on the Tyan site. Look at: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.pcpowercooling.com" target="_blank">http://www.pcpowercooling.com</a> Their web
site says:
"Guaranteed to Power Any Single or Dual CPU System With up to Twelve
Drives."
A weak power supply can cause all kinds of failures, including
intermittent operation.

Does your video card take all of it's power from the mobo, or does it
have a connector for additional power via a HD type cable?

One additional thought: Are you planning to add a second CPU? If so,
it's another reason to go with the best PSU you can afford.

On the memory issue, make sure that you follow the guidelines in your
user manual and on the Tyan site. You can't fill all four slots. Some
combinations of memory will not work due to the way the sticks are
organized. I am using Kingston memory (2x512), and I have had good
luck with that, but it didn't work with a Crucial stick, although the
specs were the same.
