: What operating system are you using? Windows XP has some
built-in, but
: crappy, software based on Roxio stuff to allow writing to
CDs directly
: from the operating system. Normally, you would use
something like Nero
: (from Ahead Software) or Easy CD Creator (from Roxio) to
prepare and
: write CDs. Didn't one of these packages come with your CD
burner?
: Usually, one of these do.
:
: CD-RW disks, which are rewritable, can be used with
packet-writing
: software such as InCD (from Ahead) or DirectCD (from Roxio).
Packet-
: writing is supposed to make the CD-RW act like a large
floppy disk: you
: can write one file at a time directly using Windows Explorer
without the
: relatively large overhead (9MB) associated with adding a
session (track)
: to a multi-session disk. To use CD-RW disks with
packet-writing
: software, the disks do have to be formatted first. In
actuality, disks
: used in packet-writing mode are not as reliable as disks
written in
: (multi-session or single-session) CD-ROM format.

And some of them take 45-60 minutes to format...some will
accept the quick format which takes about 5 minutes. ;( ..
wheeeeeO! CD-R-CDRW is not yet 'prime time' in the sense of
uniformity, reliability and dependability regarding the
hardware and the software. Additionally the fear of loosing
a penny and the resultant over-reaction by the music fat cats
over copy-rite!! has complicated things as they now want to
protect the fat corps via programs/hardware to make sure you
do not share one lyric with a friend!! Hey, I don't condone
theft, but this copyright thing has gotten waaaaaaaay out of
hand,
and serves to encourage what they want to prevent! I guess
you know where I stand on the issue.
