I've been favorably impressed by a friends system running a 9800 pro for
awhile (and indeed, wound up using it for a bit when my older card fried)

Conversely, I've been underwhelmed with the performance of my 6800,
particularly in Q4, Fear, and HDR'd HL2 (Lost Coast), even HL2 to some
extent.

So, that said, I have a friend who is choking on an older 4600, and I may
sell off my 6800 to him.

If I do this, I think I'm probably going to hop on the ATI bandwagon for the
first time in many years

What would you suggest as the two best *AGP* cards for my system? P4 3.2c,
gig of ddr400 ram. I'm looking for the flat out strongest card (no price
restrictions), and the best price/performance card, with an eye towards
games using Source, Doom 3, Crytech, Lithtech, and maybe even Serious Engine
2. Oh, bonus points for Oblivion Wink But I suppose there's no way to know how
well that will run

Some info about their comparative features and performance in very current
games would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any advice, I'd like to get back to fragging in Q4
online with a comfortable framerate.

Best AGP card is the X850XT PE. If money is not a problem though I'd sell
most of your system to that friend of yours and get a PCI-E mobo and a new
gen card...

Nah, he just needs a new video card

I couldn't find the info on their page, does the 850XT lack Shader Model 3
support? The X1800s don't come in AGP, so that's not an option

If I can't get SM3 support, what am I losing out on? HDR in Far Cry and HL2?
Anything else? I don't care about HDR at all (Bloom effects look terrible to
me), but if there are other (significant) graphical effects that I'd be
missing out on, I may want to wait, or look at a newer AGP nvidia card.
