Post subject: usb ext hard drive question

My standalone dvd player has a USB input.
I have attached a 250 gig external hard drive filled with divx movies.
Works great.
Minor bug - the menu only displays file names in 8 characters and there is
no way to sort files alphabetically (or any other way).
Does anyone know of a hack (Phillips HTS6500)to get around this, or of a
way to force the directory on the hard drive to display or read the file
names in a particular sort order?

i've got a hts-6500 and it doesn't support my external hard drive.
what kind of file system do you use, what kind of enclosure/hdd? i'm
very, very, VERY interested in getting this happen. thanks!

hard drive question - hi, I just installed a 30gig hard drive in my buddies old Pentium PC Compaq Presario. The problem is, it will not read the 30 gigs. It is still stuck on 1.9gigs which was the size of the original hard drive. This is an old PC (1996) Do I need to do....

Hard drive question - I picked up an external hard drive, simple tech, USB, strictly for backups.. The software it came with is unable to distinguish multiple computers... per their tech support, it's, well, simple! And that there is third party software I could buy that....

SATA hard drive question - Do SATA hard drives have different power connectors than regular PATA harddrives? If so, can you get an power connector adapter? I was looking at a seagate manual for thier SATA 80 Gb hd and the power connector sure looked like it had many more pins.
