I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop with Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 2 GB memory
and nVidia Quadro NVS 300M 256MB. I don't play many games but watch
lots of DVDs and video files on the laptop. The Windows Experience
Index for my video card is 4.7. Would an ugraded video card make my
movies look a hell of a lot better or do the more expensive GeForce 8M
series only significantly improve gaming graphics?

The highest that rating can go is to 4.9
4.9 is the highest. Your maxed out.

Going from 4.7 to 4.9 in a game you might see a little.

No you will not see any improvement. IMO

Correction:
The highest Windows Experience rating is not 4.9 BUT 5.9.

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT 5.9
Gaming graphics 782 MB Total available graphics memory 5.7

The above ratings are for my desktop computer

Nope. Your DVDs and video files will look the same as before.

Correct. The Geforce 8M may also have higher power consumption, reducing
battery life.

Most laptops don't have upgradable video chipset modules (or at least the
upgrade won't be cost-effective).
