Now that I have a widescreen HDTV, I would like widescreen output. So far
everything I've tried still gives me 4:3/letterbox which I have to scale
up on the TV and it doesn't look very good. Anyone able to do this?

I have a Geforce Ti4200 using s-video out and TVTool. My HDTV does have a
DVI but I don't believe it is compatible with the DVI on my Geforce.

I don't have a widescreen HDTV, but if I did, I would still try connecting
the DVI output.

The best way would be to add custom display modes of 1280x720 and 1920x1080
(native HDTV resolutions) and try it with those at a refresh rate of 60Hz.
You can add custom resolutions in the control panel of the series 50
drivers or by manually editing the nv_modes entry in the registry for
other versions if you've got some time and the compressed modes reference
guide.

You could also look for a VGA->component video converter if DVI doesn't pan
out. I know ATI makes one for its cards and I thought I saw Microcenter
selling a generic one that works with all cards.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Your card does not offer widescreen output.
