windows xp, s3prosavage problems...

i have an hp pavilion with the built-in s3prosavage.... everything was
working just fine until...

-in display properties, i selected a different "theme",

-most the the display went black, except for some icons in color,

now, i cannot SEE to do anything to change the display properties back
to anything that works!

tried everything i could think of... safe mode also comes up with most
of the display black....

any suggestions othe than trying the windows xp rescue cd [which the
owner of the pc doesn't have] ???
