does this change the serial number. i tried the original and a new one from
a key generator that allowed the installation of sp1.

Slipstreaming is just a way to incorporate SP1 with WinXP, so that
when doing a clean install, you are installing an already SP1-updated
version of XP on your 'puter.

serial numbers have nothing to do with this process, besides the fact
that you still need one.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

sorry but the files (SP1) are now incorporated onto a CD but i cant access
them as the serial number is no longer recognised. i've tried two, the
original from the CD and another that i've found worked with SP1
installations.

so somewhere along the line something has changed.

Righto, I did it on my bootleg copy and had the (mis)fortune the other day
to try it out. It booted and installed with SP1 already in place.

i tried the same with my bootleg version and followed the slipstreamed
instructions but when i get to the serial number insertion page neither the
original nor a keygen number will be recognised.
I'm fed up looking at it.
i ended up formatting the drive using a win98SE disc and then upgrading and
this way i got a 155GB drive rather than 122GB ( its a Maxtor 160GB). the
only prob is that its FAT32 but what the hell its all working now.
