x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding.
I'm trying to record my video family on my computer but i cant get my
signal from my vhs video player it's a slv-n51. It has on the back 3
female out put like RCA plugs. So i guess it's s-video component.
Now the problem. I'm trying to get the signal from the vhs but it
doesn't seem to send any signal to my x700pro VIvo card. This is very
frustrating at the moment. So now i've uninstalled my mmc and i'm
trying to get it work with Nero burning. But even with Nero i don't
get any signal just like Nero tells me. I'm wondering if the card is
defect or my vhs cant get out any s-video signal.
I've try movie maker from windows media and same thing no signal. But
if i plug in a usb port my digital "picture" camera it work "in a usb
port not on the video card". So now i'm lost and i would like at least
what i should do write. like installation or some tweaks that ati
don't tell to get their product working for good. >> Stay informed about: x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding. |

3 RCA plugs are probably composite video (not s-video) and left &
right audio channels. They should be labelled; if not, RTFM - you
should be able to download one if you don't have it. There should
also be SCART sockets (we usually have them in Europe, anyway) for
which you would need to buy a lead with appropriate output plugs -
often the best way to go.

Does the cord terminate with RCA plugs or sockets? If so that sounds
like it. Very often, ATI and OEM leads have arrows moulded into the
plugs to indicate which way round it is: for capture, of course, the
arrows should point towards the card.
Are the colours actually blue, red and green? Most ATI leads I've
seen use red and black/white for audio and yellow for composite video.
Better check which is which before using it.
No, you don't need anything to convert the signal from analog to
digital: in it's essence, that's what the capture process is.

Sounds like the OP is trying to connect to an output but then I was cruising
through the Knowledge Base and saw this. Thought it might apply.
Video input does not work (shows black screen) on certain VIVO products
The information in this article applies to the following
configuration(s):
a.. RADEON VIVO products, based on RADEON X700 Series and higher
b.. CATALYST 5.3
c.. CATALYST 5.4
d.. Windows 2000
e.. Windows XP
With a configuration noted above, it has been found that the VIDEO-IN
functionality does not work as expected. Video applications, such as
Multimedia Center may show a black or blank screen in the video window.
To correct this issue, download and install Catalyst 5.5 display
drivers or higher.
Hope this helps. >> Stay informed about: x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding. |

I'm using the 5.7 version of the video driver. Every thing is setup to
work ok update, and plug-ins too.
I would love too read about that problem on the x700 series. Do you
still have the link...

It's RCA like at the back of my video.

yes it is, And i've found out that there is a way " an arrow is on the
cable pointing outside of my computer. "away from the video card."

Thank you it really help, now it would be nice if i had exactly the
same cable but with an arrow pointing at the card.
Are all the component for video output in the bundle?
i better check that, next time.
Grrr ati.

Could you be pointing to a solution? I'm not the expert here. So
what's the fuzz about the component output and the composite one and
the s-video one too. On my Sony slv-n51 VHS cassette player there is
tree like RCA output and 3 input witch i know there is a function for
itch on, red white and yellow. At the moment i got an extent ion witch
has tree cables with male ""socket" at the end. So i'm trying to use
my video card with what i got in my hand. The second reason that i use
that cable is: I'm not familiar with composite, component and s-video
cable. So I've seen that in the bundle there was a tree RCA cable a
red a bleu and a green one all connected to a "composite plug if i
recall". >> Stay informed about: x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding. |

That's what I thought. I assume if the X700 is a VIVO it would have the same
purple breakout box for input that my AIWs and HDTV Wonder came with. He
wouldn't be the first one to get input and output connectors mixed up. The
ball is in his court. >> Stay informed about: x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding. |

Didn't know ATI went to the expense of making a different layout for the
VIVO. >> Stay informed about: x700pro vivo ati card problem with vhs video-in encoding. |

I don't know why, T Shadow. Maybe it has something to do with audio
being connected through the soundcard rather than the videocard,
although I still don't really see why there should be a different
layout.
I have an adapter in my hand ATM that's for a VIVO card: an s-video
type plug that goes into the card, and from this there are four leads:
one composite video in and one out, and one s-video in and one out.
I've also got both VIVO and AIW type regular adapters (with the box
termination) - perhaps I should put a meter on them and see what the
difference is.
